"Like a Firefly" Concept Art, 2023.
A storyboard for an animation inspired by my Chinese name (literal translation: "Like a firefly") and draws from my personal experience with anxiety growing up. The storyboard personifies the anxiety I faced as an obstacle that constantly disrupted my daily life and illustrates how it evolved throughout the different stages of my life (childhood, teens, adulthood).
The phrase "like a firefly" carries dual meaning:

"Like a firefly, lighting up the dark" represents guidance and navigating my way through tough times and,
-
"Like a firefly, bounded within the confines of a jar" represents the feeling of being trapped by anxiety.
The storyboard is mostly in grayscale to portray the narrative in a serious, introspective and retrospective tone. As the narrative progresses and reaches its conclusion, a subtle introduction of colour marks the resolution of my conflict with anxiety, symbolizing my personal growth.
